Why is the engine sputtering / cutting out?

< 1 min read

Q: Why is my petrol engine sputtering/cutting out?
A: 90% of the time, this issue is caused by a slight lack of oil within the chipper or mulcher. Simply adding 50ml of oil to the engine should solve the issue.

Q: What should I do if adding oil doesn’t solve the issue?
A: If adding oil doesn’t solve the issue, it may be due to water entering the petrol tank when filling it up. Make sure the funnel is completely dry before filling up the chipper with petrol. If water has entered the tank, it sinks to the bottom and the engine will attempt to burn it first, causing the engine to sputter and cut out. To resolve this issue, empty some of the petrol using the plug at the bottom of the machine.

Q: What else could cause the engine to sputter/cut out?
A: A rare case of the engine sputtering and cutting out may be due to other issues such as a faulty spark plug or carburetor. If you have checked the oil level and ensured that no water has entered the tank, please contact our technical helpline for further assistance.
